Coote Hall is situated in Sligo, the largest town in the North West of Ireland, with a population of over 17,894 people (official figures from the 2006 census), stands at the mouth of the Garavogue River between Lough Gill and the mighty Atlantic Ocean.
Enjoying a wealth of ancient heritage dating back some 6,000 years, landscapes which have remained unspoilt for centuries and very close connections with the poet and playwright W.B. Yeats and his family.
To the East of the town is the very scenic Lough Gill, one of Sligo's best known beauty spots, immortalised by W.B. Yeats in many of his work's.
Work Procedure
With the area steeped in history all work had to be completed to strict environmental guidelines. To ensure the building blended in with it's natural surroundings, the roof had to be finished with a lawn covering that would naturally hide all the waterproofing layers to the building.
Commissioned by Ireland based, Malone Construction, Beton Bauen Limited prepared the exterior building for waterproofing and protection from ground water, the nearby lake, as well as weathering.
The approved waterproofing system was a bentonite based membrane “shot-fired” to the external concrete walls and loose laid on the structural roof. All joints in the membrane are over lapped as set out in the manufacturers instructions.
Natural Covering
The final stage of the project was to apply the roof toppings that included undersoil, with a mix of nutrients to encourage growth and strength, before covering with top soil and the grass covering. The area was then levelled off to the height of the roof and landscaped to form a natural finish.
