Opco is a construction company whose expertise and experience is widely acknowledged within the Construction and Civil engineering industry within South Wales and the South West.

In the past five years Opco has completed the preceding five phases of this 800-unit development and the award of the £24m contract for the sixth and final phase brings the overall project value in excess of £110m. Century Wharf, known as Strata, will comprise 243 one and two-bedroom and studio apartments with full undercroft parking which will be ready for occupation in March 2009. Unlike the other phase in Century Wharf, Strata will feature a 15-storey tower block which will offer views of both Cardiff city centre and the Bristol channel.

The buildings are reinforced concrete frame to upper floors with precast staircases and a steel roof structure with mezzanine floors to the penthouses. The roofs comprise of single ply membrane to flat areas and concrete tiles to the pitched areas, with roof terraces to penthouses. The facades are predominantly brickwork with bands of render and ashlar stonework, and include cedar cladding, aluminium windows and curtain walling sections.

External works comprised of access road, car parking and footpaths complete with hard and soft landscaping covered by an internal CCTV network.

Work Procedure
Beton Bauen Limited were instructed to carry out concrete remedial work to an existing car park. The existing concrete surface was in need of extensive preparation before any surface toppings and wearing courses could be applied. Preparation included removing the top 5mm of surface laitance to expose a suitable surface to receive an extremely fast curing waterproof car park deck system.

It was vital that the correct materials were used because at the time of application the actual outside temperature was almost zero. Special MMA resins were applied and can cope with such extreme temperatures.For further information contact Beton Bauen Ltd.
