This years CRA Awards 2025 in Glasgow proved very fruitful for South Wales based company, Beton Bauen. After being shortlisted as finalists nine times across five categories, the specialist concrete repairer picked up two awards, with an additional project also "highly commended!"

18 December 2025
What a night! On 11 December, we gathered at the Radisson Blu in Glasgow to celebrate the very best of the concrete repair sector at our CRA Awards 2025.
It was a packed day for everyone who made the trip. We kicked off with our AGM during the day, before things took a rather more adventurous turn with an axe-throwing social event – let’s just say some of us discovered hidden talents (and others discovered we should probably stick to concrete repair).
The evening awards ceremony, generously sponsored by Mackenzie Construction, brought together over 100 contractors, clients, designers and suppliers from across the UK. Our host for the night was the brilliant Tom Elliott, who kept us thoroughly entertained with his magic throughout the evening.
We’re also delighted to share that our charity auction raised £2,250, split equally between Scottish Men’s Sheds Association and Glasgow Women’s Aid – two fantastic causes supporting community and wellbeing services across Scotland.
Steve Harrison, our CRA Chair, said:
" The quality of entries for the 2025 CRA Awards has been exceptional. The winning projects and individuals demonstrate not only technical excellence, but a real commitment to safety, sustainability, collaboration and developing people – all essential to the future of our industry. It was fantastic to see such a strong cross-section of the sector represented in Glasgow and to celebrate achievements that set benchmarks for best practice.”
Beton Bauen Success written by Dan Brennan (Beton Bauen)

As Managing Director Steve Davies (accompanied by Wayne Annan and Dan Brennan) from Beton Bauen left 'sunny' Wales heading north to Scotland for the CRA Awards 2025, it would be fair to say that the trio held an underlying confidence that the South Wales based specialist contractor may fair slightly better than the Wales rugby team, who lost 35-29 to Scotland in March. This confidence was probably justified, as Beton Bauen were shortlisted finalists for nine projects across five award categories. Shortlisted projects included:
CPA Members' Project Award
A465 Neath Loop Lin/Jersey Marine
Sustainability and Social Value Award
South Wales Mushroom Tanks
Pen Y Dre High School
Innovation of the Year Award
Slab Bonding (Penybont Wastewater Treatment Works)
CRA Small Project of the Year Award
Penybont Wastewater Treatment Works
Pen Y Dre High School
Azerbaijan National Flagpole
CRA Large Project of the Year Award
South Wales Mushroom Tanks
A465 Neath Loop Line/Jersey Marine
Also on the trip was Steve's daughter (Sophie), and the four became five when Steve's son (James) made the short trip from his home in Edinburgh for the ceremony and axe throwing. Less said about the afternoon axe throwing the better (as far as Dan is concerned), but congratulations to everyone else, who all seemed to get the hang of it!
To the award ceremony, and the main event. Big thanks to everyone at the venue (Radisson Blu, Glasgow), organisers from the CRA and AGM House, compare/host/magician Tom Elliot, and of course all those who attended - collectively you all made it a fab evening.
Beton Bauen are extremely proud to walk away with the Innovation of the Year Award for Slab Bonding (at Penybont Water Treatment Works, South Wales), plus the CRA Small Project of the Year Award for their work Baku, on the Azerbaijan National Flagpole. Further industry recognition came as the shortlisted project, Pen Y Dre High School (CRA Small Project of the Year Award) was "Highly Commended" by judges.
Beton Bauen Managing Director, Steve Davies, comments:
" Beton Bauen is absolutely over the moon to win three separate awards at the CRA Awards in Glasgow. It shouldn't be underestimated how much planning and hard work goes into concrete repair projects - making sure the correct materials and processes are in place should ultimately lead to a safe and above all, an effective repair solution. Congratulations to every business and individual shortlisted for an award. The quality of your work pushes Beton Bauen to improve and maintain our own high standards.”
Beton Bauen's Steve Davies was also delighted to present an award on the evening, with the Kevin Coulman Lifetime Contribution Award going to his business associate and long-term friend, Deiniol Williams. Recently retired, Deiniol was Involved in the industry for over fifty-years, notably working for Marshalls PLC, Saint Gobain Pipelines, and Fosroc, as well as being former President of The Concrete Society.
