We take a look back at Beton Bauen's Steve Davies recent trip to Asia. Mixing a bit of "business" and "pleasure", Steve and his family managed to catch-up with our friends CSC Robotic Engineering in Hong Kong, get involved with celebrations in Japan, and encounter Giant Turtles in The Philippines.

Leg 1 - Hong Kong 'Business Before Pleasure'
After flying from Cardiff International' to Schiphol airport (Amsterdam), Steve, Belinda & Sophie Davies made their connection to Hong Kong for the first leg of their Asia Tour! A few days on the 'island' included a scheduled visit to robot design/manufacturing company, and Beton Bauen partner, CSC Robotic Engineering.
Beton Bauen has invested greatly in the semi-autonomous Drillcorpio Model Df robot that's designed to help efficiency, and improve safety and productivity on the jobsite. The investment is in parallel with the UK Government scheme 'UK Smart Machines Strategy 2035', aimed at offering businesses robotics and automation opportunities. The technology offers significant efficiency improvements compared with the traditional drilling method.
Automatic drilling robots such as the Model Df require less labour (one-man operation) to carry out the same drilling process, while offering faster speed and higher consistency for a better quality result. Above everything the robot offers improved safety by greatly reducing the risk of working at height, reduction in silica dust exposure, removes exposure to HAVs (repetitive drilling), automates tasks in confined spaces, and keeps humans clear from hazardous zones/areas.
Steve and his family were fondly welcomed to company headquarters by CSC Robo CEO (Michael Ren), Engineer (Eric Li), and the rest of the team in Hong Kong. Beton Bauen will have some more big news soon, regarding Autonomous Drilling, and we'll be catching up with Michael Ren on June 5th at Evolving Concrete 2026, in London.

Leg 2 - Fukuoka, Japan: 'Furthering Education'
A 3-hour 20mins flight across the East China Sea, saw Steve and Belinda escort their daughter (Sophie) to Fukuoka, the capital of Japan's Kyushu Island. Known for its ancient temples, pristine beaches, and world-class culinary scene, Fukuoaka is actually located closer to Seoul than Tokyo.
Whilst the family immersed themselves in a local parade, Sophie Davies is at the beginning of a new chapter in life. Sophie is staying in Japan until the end of July to learn some basic Japanese language, before planning a return to teach English language, at some time in the future.
Leg 3 - Cebu, Philippines: 'Rest & Relaxation'
As per normal the last leg of Steve & Belinda's Asia Tour 2026, included a little bit of business when they got to Cebu, in The Philippines!
Whilst Belinda took advantage of beautiful beaches and glorious weather, Beton Bauen long-term partner company Corrtech Inc. were delighted to invite Steve to join their monthly sales meeting. Steve was also offered the opportunity to talk about the benefits of membership of professional associations within the industry, offering advice from his experience as Vice Chair of The Concrete Repair Association, Technical Officer of The Concrete Society Wales Region.
Finally, Steve got some well-deserved rest, indulging in his favourite pastime... diving. Take some time to see the marvelous Giant Turtles and other sea life off the coast of Philippines. It makes you wonder why anyone would want to leave!
