Works are well underway to construct and operate a waste-to-energy plant in Aberdeen, titled the Ness Energy Project. Spanish renewable firm Acciona has secured a contract to develop the plant, costing more than £150 million, and then over 20-years operate a waste-to-energy (WtE) plant in Aberdeen, Scotland. The facility will have the capacity to process 150,000t of municipal solid waste annually to generate electricity.
The Ness Energy Project will be housed in a former gas storage site on the East Tullos Industrial Estate in Aberdeen, where it will treat non-recyclable waste in a clean, sustainable, and comprehensive way.
Once completed, the project is expected to provide a sustainable solution for non-recyclable municipal solid waste produced in the city of Aberdeen, as well as local councils located in north-east Scotland that includes Aberdeenshire and Moray.
Beton Bauen is set to begin work in Scotland throughout January/February 2023, enabling the project to continue successfully by providing specialist services including Resin Injection and Structural Waterproofing.
Acciona will provide the design, turnkey construction, commissioning as well as operation and maintenance services for the plant for 20-years. The project is jointly commissioned by Aberdeen City, Moray and Aberdeenshire Councils with building set to continue throughout the year, before the waste plant becomes operational later in 2023.
