Taffs Well RFC vs Senghenydd RFC... Two of Beton Bauen's Sponsored Clubs Meet In The WRU Division 2 Cup!

In the men's game, Taffs Well RFC vs Senghenydd RFC is not a scenario that is likely to come round that often in the foreseeable future. Now competing in different leagues, the three local community clubs sponsored by Beton Bauen (Caerphilly RFC, Senghenydd RFC and Taffs Well RFC) will be unlikely to play each other with the regularity they once did during the COVID-19 crisis.

Of course back in March 2025 the clubs met at the Principality Stadium, on this occasion in the women's format of the game. Senghenydd Sirens were crowned National Bowl Champions, playing their part in great showpiece that helped to promote the huge growth potential of women's rugby union.

The result of the Men’s National Cup fixture this Saturday will be far less predictable; Taffs Well RFC and Senghenydd RFC both having unwanted results at the beginning of the 2025/26 season. Former Wales and British & Irish Lion, Matthew Rees, as new Head Coach of Taffs Well RFC was unable to prevent two losses, first to local rivals Pentyrch RFC, and then at Maes Gwyn to Clwb Rygbi Cymry Caerdydd RFC. Senghenydd meanwhile lost narrowly 8-17 in their opening fixture to Pontypool United RFC at home, and more convincingly the following week, away to Rhymney RFC.

So with both clubs looking for injection of form, this cup fixture couldn't come at a better time. First XV captains Gwilym Edwards (Scrum Half) and Darren Gale (No. 8) will both be believe they can overcome the opposition, determined to have their respective teams' name in the draw for the second round of the cup next week.

Beton Bauen is delighted to be significant sponsors of both clubs and we'll be as eager as any supporter to see an entertaining match... which clubs apparel Beton Bauen representatives choose to wear on the day is yet to be determined!
